I have been rather lazy at getting dressed up lately – one thing about working from home is that it becomes increasingly difficult to come up with reasons to should change out of my pyjamas every day. In fact, my unofficial ‘uniform’ seems to have become a pair of old jeans, woolly socks, and a slouchy heavy metal t-shirt (Iron Maiden if you are interested).
But my friends deserve better than this. So when I was invited to Land Girl’s place for afternoon tea, I decided to take a leaf from her book and put together a 1940s style outfit. The dress and crepe jacket are both from the 70s but with very 40s styling; actually, they were both taken from the shop rails and the jacket is currently for sale on the website. I don’t have any decent jackets in my own wardrobe at the moment so literally grabbed it from the ‘listed’ rack before rushing out the door.
The sunglasses are by Polaroid, from their new heritage range which was inspired by designs from their archives going back to the 30s. They are some great styles available, I’ll be doing another post about them soon.
I did a trial run of a new lipstick on the day, a brand at the cheaper end of the market called 2 True which is available at Superdrug. The colour was really lovely, a yummy pinky red which went on with great coverage. Sadly, it wasn’t long before it slid off my lips and around my mouth, making me look like a 5 year old who had been playing with her mum’s make-up box. My advice is to spend the extra money and buy a lipstick which will stay where it belongs.
Note: head scarves are being worn increasingly often lately, as I try to decide whether or not to grow out my cropped hair-do. Nothing extreme, maybe just a 20s bob instead. What do you all think – crop or bob?
