This post has been a long time in coming. I first came across the 50s model Suzy Parker when I was putting together the posts on Funny Face – Suzy was one of Richard Avedon’s favourite models and had several very small cameos in the film (you might recognise her in the Think Pink scene). For those of you who think supermodels were a 90s phenomenon, think again. Suzy, along with several other girls, was all over the place in the 50s and early 60s. As usual I have gone overboard and have a huge amount of vintage magazine and advertising images, so this is a small taster of some of the higher quality Suzy treats I have to show you tomorrow. Enjoy!
My favourites are the advertisement split in half between legs and body, and the faux fur camel coloured swing coat. Which is yours?
>She has an incredible bone structure – I don't think I can choose a photo, as they are all so gorgeous! How did you find them all?
I've never come across her before, but I can tell why she was one of Richard Avedon's favourites. I'll look out for her next time I watch Funny Face!

>She was astonishingly beautiful, young and old. What a great collections of pics to put together.
>She is lovely! I've seen her face in vintage ads before; now i know her name! My favorite ad the one with the tropical background, where she is wearing the red dress.
>I love the Vogue cover with the black outfit and yellow scarf – it's such a striking image.

>Fabulous collage of images! That must have kept you busy! Nice to see images of a woman rather than someone pushing 14 – I love the ones of her in red.
>A great beauty, Please show large the picture
of 3 models who appear to be holding half pints of lager. 6th row from the top
>What a wonderful recollection of pictures. I love the 40s and 50s, so i could spend hours looking at each one of them. What a magnificent sourcer of inspiration: the dresses, the hair, the colours, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

>Wow, this is seriously comprehensive. Do her sister next!
>Wonderful! I'm loving the floral number accessorised by a fag and a palm tree. xxx
>I love how the women of that age all look like the advertisement images and comicbooks of that age. She has Wonder Woman's bone structure! :D
>Oh isn't she beautiful? So versatile as well – I wouldn't have know they were all of the same person if you hadn't said so.
>What fantastic images (good lord – that must have take you an AGE to put together. Hurrah). Stunning.
I love the American Weekly red dress with white evening gloves. Gorgeous.
>I love them all but especially the one in the huge (Chanel?) frock in the warehouse with the thirty foot ceiling and the high windows. Like any good model, she's a total chameleon isn't she? Just beautiful… thanks so much Penny! Sarah xxx
>Penny, what a research!! I just kept scrolling down and down and down!! She was a Chanel girl!! WOO :) And that ad (or what is it?) for nailpolish with fish on it is hilarious! Some of the photographs I've seen before, like the one from time not even knowing what I'm seeing! Good job on the post, you put so much hard work in it! :)
>Ooooh so many to choose from. She had a very special look. Maybe the gold coloured Bazzar cover for me. Xxxx
>What a wonderful profile and a wonderful plethora of pictures. x
>Many of them are wonderful…but the one with the white kitten and Vogue cover may 1952 are my favourites.
>I have never heard of this beautiful lady, thank you for bringing her into my life! She is perfection.
My favourites have to be Chanel, Aquamarine, the one with white dress that has different sized polka dots, i could go on forever more but with so many great photographs it's hard to choose.
Can't wait to see more tomorrow :)

>Dear Margaret, what gorgeous pictures. She was stunning and so elegant, easy to see why she was the face of the 1950's. I must watch Funny Face as soon as it arrives. Hope you've had a good day in the snow xx
>Truly a proper super model and my favourite is the yellow jumper with a bit of red skirt. That pose shows the best studio shot ever. The perfect combo of photography, styling and model – just think no digital enhancements made.
>I had never hear of her before now…but she is just incredible. There's something timeless about Suzy's look…
Thanks for pulling together such an amazing selection of shots….it's awfully hard to pick a fave!
x
>I love her look… I have always wanted to emulate it, even the kitschy bits (sometimes especially the kitschy bits)!
My faves are:
Outragious Kitsch: the cutex nail polish and waterproof lipstick ads (I emulate the waterproof lipstick advert- in my dreams!).
Serious Glam: the Elle cover with the red/fur coat, and the 'family shot' in Paris.
Lovely!! :)
>she's absolutely stunning, love all these photos!
XOXO, BECCA
