Hopefully you’ve all enjoyed the images that have been flooding through in the past week for London Fashion Week. I have to admit that it has all passed me by a little, and I’ve just been too busy to keep up. I’m planning on making a big pot of tea this weekend and sitting down to go through all the shows.
I did, however, clock the House of Holland collection, with a few pieces using colourful 70s style Afghan (or ‘granny squares’) crochet. Look familiar?
Paul Smith had some very similar pieces in his AW2010 collection last year, which I mentioned in a style inspiration post here. Over the past few years we have seen crochet designs coming from Chanel, Missoni, Rodarte and D&G. This trend might be a bit of a slow-burner and slightly too quirky to appeal to all tastes, but it won’t be disappearing anytime soon. Now it has been taken up by the East London set we can expect to see it all over Shoreditch next winter. Here is Christopher Kane’s interpretation:
I like how he has shown crochet in a modern way, worn with a pair of black cigarette pants and structured blazer.
