| ‘Princess and the Pea’ inspired photograph by Tim Walker |
I’m back at work today but still dreaming of going back to sleep in a decadent bedroom. I think I have discovered that old murder mystery novels (accompanied by Earl Grey tea and Turkish delight) get me better much quicker than rosy-cheeked chirruping nuns. Thanks to (most!) of you for backing me up on the Sound of Music disdain, I had no idea I was in such good company.
This is the second lot of dream bedrooms I have been saving for inspiration. I’ve discovered that I also have a whole other design file on my home computer, so this might have to turn into a three-parter. Again, most of the pictures are from Design Sponge or Desire to Inspire, with a few odd ones from The Selby. I have discovered that I like:
1. Beds which are low to the ground
2. Black walls
3. Attics
4. White or mismatched bedlinen
5. Big windows
What would your dream bedroom look like?

| Look at the lush hotel-style bedlinen |
 |
| A BED NOOK! *stamping feet in excitement* |
 |
| The Selby |
 |
| The curtains have little scraps of lace sewn on |
 |
| I think perhaps this is my favourite |
 |
| I love the way this looks like a ship cabin. It would feel so adventurous sleeping here every night. |
 |
| I think this might have been a scan from Domino magazine. Love the striped flooring. |
 |
| Simple and beautiful |
 |
| This I mostly like for the top shelf of original orange Penguin books. |
 |
| Indian screens as a bedhead |
 |
| Rebecca Purcell’s bedroom from Nest Magazine |
 |
| This is brilliant, what a fabulous take on the tradtional four poster. |
 |
| The Selby again. I adore exposed brick walls and bolg wallpaper. And jumping on beds, too. |
 |
| This is lovely. But would I get claustrophobic in reality? |
>oooh all lovely, I like the bed nook but can't see it being very practical if you need the loo in the middle of the night & you're at the wall side of the bed he he!
>LOVELY! I like the roof eaves one.
I would go for:
-dark or pink bedlinen is various textures
-Clothes rails
-Book-lined walls
-dim-able lighting.
>They're all soooo lovely.. envyenvyenvy. I'd need lots of books, a dark green wall, a bare wall, distressed furniture, mismatched linen too (some white, some with flowers) and driftwood. xx
>I could very easily be persuaded into the bedroom with the bed nook or the one with the shelves of books and horse photos on the wall. Or even the one with the spiral staircase. As you can probably tell, my tastes run to clutter, not minimalism.
I had a yen when I was little for one of those raised beds with a desk underneath (possibly the influence of some long forgotten book). I think my slightly more grown up tastes are for a room with many many MANY books, a cat or two and some beautiful photos or prints on the walls. Oh and not containing horrible built in wardrobes. Stick a bed in a library and I'd be quite happy really.
>Aren't they lovely? I like your favorite, the top one and the one with the wooden bed and the whitewashed walls so basically a room that looks homely with lots of miss-matched furniture and books plus a sea view if possible. xxx
>these are all pretty damn amazing! can't even point out my favourite… but 'yours' actually seem perfect. cosy, light, 'old', personal with a bit of colour… we're such grandmothers.
I also like the first one from Selby with exposed brick walls and large windows… and the one with original Penguin paperbacks :) even though I don't like paperbacks, those are fab.
And the 'bed nook' is amazing… so is the 'hotel style' bedroom…. god, I can never make up my mind!
thanks for the selection :)
>To have wardrobe envy is one thing.. (at times it's attainable) But room envy… crap. Ill never have those beautiful bedrooms!! (but Ill damn well try to get something close one day)
My fav has to be the one that look to be a loft, from the selby. I love big open space and loads of natural light!
>gorgeous…. we have the same taste, ie your fav… …. all I really want to know is where is all their STUFF hiding????
>Goodness – that room with the bed nook looks like my fantasy bedroom from when I was about 11. I used to draw designs for my fantasy house, and bed nook with storage underneath was absolutely vital! x
>I like the third one, the fourth one, the bed nook and your favourite. I too tend towards clutter but not oo much. I hate white, light, bright, stark and shabby chic anything!
>I've got that horrible winter vomiting bug that's going around and have been confined to bed for the last few days – so my dream room is one without a sick bucket in it!
>Super, I've been working myself up to redecorating our bedroom. I can see lots of pinchable ideas here. I've already got: the books, the mismatched bedlinen (accidentally), now just need time, paint and stamina.
>They are all fabulous options, but I think my next house or bedroom or whatever has to be white.
I love white bed clothing too.

>Dear Margaret, I love the Tim Walker picture! The bedroom with the black walls, 2nd pic and the one with the grey curtains, 4th pic are my favourites. Love the Indian screens too.
Giles has black walls in his bedroom and it looks fabulous!
My bedroom is painted a Victorian colour called Dragon's Blood Red which I love but my second choice would be black or very dark grey. I have my dream bedroom but the only thing I'd change is it's in the basement – my sitting room is upstairs. I'd love high ceilings like in there – then it would be perfect.
I'm so glad you're feeling better, Earl Grey and Turkish Delight sounds just the thing.
Thank you for your brilliant and thoughtful comments yesterday, love C xx
>I've never wanted to crawl back into bed so badly…especially if my bed looked like the one in the black walled room.

>WOW! Love the images!! I'm feeling inspired now where is my secret stash of dosh xx
>I agree with you on 3, 4, and 5. aaand the bedroom you picked as your fave is mine too. NOthing like cosying up in mismatched chintz and feedsack quilts with tea and puppy and Agatha Christie novels!
>I so want to re decorate my bedroom now! And I'd love a 'bed nook'!xx
