I spotted these Maison Martin Margiela carpet boots over on That’s Not My Age today and was instantly smitten. They remind me very much of the bohemian fashions of the late 60s and early 70s, and are something I could see Talitha Getty or Jane Birkin wearing. Proenza Schouler also seem to have come out with some carpet shoes, and Jeffrey Campbell has done versions in traditional tapestry materials. Of course for those of us on a realistic budget, the best bet is to look out for a vintage pair. Keep in mind though that even vintage tapestry boots are an investment, since they are much harder to come across than a pair constructed in regular leather or suede.

Gorgeous aren’t they? Still trying to figure out what I can sell to buy them!
PS thanks for the mention
Hi my dear-they are just soo gorgeous and I also really like the full length boots styled here too x
WANT!
One would need a carpet bag to go with, no?
I need a pair of tapestry boots. They form a gap in my extensive shoe collection.
Thanks for posting pics of all these gorgeous boots. I have been coveting suzani boots, which are similar, for some time. Because I can’t afford them and also don’t purchase leather, I’ve decided to replicate the look with spats. I bought a vintage 1970s Simplicity pattern for spats (#9553) and will use some type of tapestry or embroidered fabric. The vintage tapestry boots in your post will serve as inspiration. Thanks!
I have died and gone to boot heaven thanks to your heart-stopping pic of the MMM boots! xoxo
