Description

Vintage sheer chiffon dress dating from the early 30s which would originally have been worn over a slip dress in matching colour. The bodice of the dress is lined in a peach acetate or rayon, while the sleeves and skirt are left sheer and unlined. Over the bodice, sleeves and skirt hem are appliqued motifs of a cream maple leaf sewn with iridescent peach sequins and gold metallic thread. The sleeves come to a medieval style pointed cuff, and the bodice fastens with hooks and eyes and has a v neck. The skirt is open at the front, with ruched gathering at the waist and bias-cut fabric so that it has a beautiful soft drape.

Condition is good. There are some small holes throughout the fabric, the sleeve seams appear to have been re-sewn at some point, and there was a tear under one arm which we have mended and darned. There has been some colour migration but it isn’t serious. Some of the leaf appliques have lost a few sequins but this isn’t noticeable. The dress is quite old and delicate and will need to be worn with care.

Size is a general small to medium.
