Style Inspiration: Crochet

The Paul Smith crochet dress above was one of my favourite pieces from the AW 2010 fashion shows; I have always liked the 70s crochet trend, and it is great to see it being revived in a more modern way. Quite a few other designers have been experimenting with the method, so we should see some interesting designs filtering down to the high street this winter.
After spotting the Paul Smith dress I immediately began scouring for a vintage something for myself, and came up trumps with a coloured crochet top. It stayed tucked away in a drawer all summer, but now that the weather is starting to turn a bit colder it can finally come out. This is how I wore it on Saturday:
Details: 70s crochet top, with purple cardi, draped skirt, tooled 70s belt, 80s leather bag, trusty brogues, and the most amazingly warm woolly green kilt socks pilfered from Mr Dreadful.
Crochet is a fitting trend for the colder weather, particularly when the designers are brave enough to use colour. Now is the time to start searching original vintage examples, before it gets colder and everyone else cottons (or woollens, boom boom!) on to the idea.

    >great job finding all these! I am a crochet obsessed fiend, but I love the 30s crocheted garments best. I think your version of the trend looks AMAZING, though. Very chic.

    >I am a crochet obsessive, I wish I could do it myself. This trend and pieces are beautiful but I prefer to head to Etsy/ Folksy to get my fix. There is something about 'mass made' crochet that seems to not quite feel right

    >Ohno! I must be the only one to shriek at the first image. LOL, It's just too much of my uncool childhood. These haunting and suffocating crocheted cushions, loorollcovers, sleeveless pullovers and nasty craft teachers. I manage the older stuff, but I get 1970s rashes. :-)
But your outfit does look cool!

    >Great post. I am looking at crochet in a whole new light now. My aunt makes those blankets like the top Paul Smith picture. I wonder if she could knock me up a dress? Hope you're well xx
