Vintage 70s ‘Good Life’ Outfit

I have been rather absent from the virtual world this week. With so much to do, so little time, and dramas including a site which had stolen all (all) my old blog posts, I have been getting increasingly stressed lately. Finally I exploded into tears on Monday night, and Mr D told firmly me to shut the computer down and take a week off.

Well, I haven’t quite taken the whole week off, but I did give myself a break from listing and blogging, and took the time to read a few books.  I must say I am feeling much better and hugely refreshed for it. It is really hard to feel you ‘deserve’ a break when you are your own boss, but it makes such a difference.

This is what I wore to visit my friend Gemma on Sunday. A while ago we discovered we have a mutual love of 70s sitcom The Good Life, and decided to get together and watch some old episodes. I was inspired by Barbara in my choice of outfit – don’t I just look ready to prune broad beans, milk some apricots, and harvest a goat? The only thing properly vintage is my headscarf, but everything else was handed down from others (including the 70s style Peruvian jumper from my mum). I feel Barbara would approve.

Note: I wanted to include livestock in my photos, so roped in Elsa as a fellow model. She was not impressed. See claws for reference.

Oi! You’ve pinched my cat! Elsa and Polly Piglet are so alike it’s scary! You look fab, love the sweater and head scarf. Have a lovely weekend. xxx

  3. Fab – love The Good Life (my parents had some book on self sufficiency when I was a kid, always quite fancied having chickens etc. Hate digging though, which is a bit of a stumbling block!)

Sorry to hear about the posts theft, what a nightmare. Is it one of those weird one which just wants content for some reason, or are they are vintage type one blatantly passing off your stuff as their own? Can blogger take it down?

I’ve been pretty manic these month, stepping away from the computer does make a difference if you can force yourself (which I rarely can)

    Have a good weekend

I do like a woman who can co-ordinate her outfit to her cat.

I remember those claws. As does my shoulder.

Milk some apricots… haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaa!!! SNORT.

Awwww. I too love The Good Life, especially since I come from the land of the ‘Burbiton. (I’d probably grab the opportunity to dress up like Margot rather too enthusiastically meself…) x

As someone who read The Whole Earth Catalog and made bread as a young teen, I, of course, loved The Good Life (although it was called Good Neighbors here in the U.S.). I loved Barbara and Tom’s relationship and Barbara’s no-nonsense style. I had forgotten all about it. Thanks for reminding me. You certainly look the part!

I thought you’d have been more inspired by Margo! :D
