Vintage Home: Retro Telephones

We have been trying not to spend too much lately, but neither Mr D or I could resist treating ourself to a fancy new 70s style trim phone in bright orange. We’ve been using our boring old rented-flat-beige-BT-phone for years, so it is very exciting to have a phone I’m actually proud to display. And look how nicely it coordinates with my vintage magazines!

I looked at a lot of retro telephones before deciding on the Trim Phone. The deciding factor was really the colour – we both wanted an orange phone, and being a 70s style the trim was the only one that came in that shade.

Retro telephones have become hugely popular lately, and there are a huge variety to choose from. Below are just some of the phones I found that are available right now (I won’t suggest any one website because you can find them in loads of places) – you can buy anything from a 1930s wood and brass style to a 1980s hamburger phone. Classic 1950s phones tend to come in colours like red, black and cream, but if you really want a bright colour you are best to look at the 70s styles like Trim Phones or Scandiphones.

We got it from Amazon, but they are also in John Lewis, eBay, and loads of other places :)

That’s a very ’70s style (and colour) indeed!

Another one I’d suggest is the Sagecom Sixty: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004Q9T7Q4. I’ve been sorely tempted to replace my [black] Geemarc Mayfair (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001SFZ6QO) with a Sixty. Although I do like the last 3 in your post (and the Swissvoice too).

Oh yes I like those ones too! I love the Swissvoice but the lack of interesting colours ruled it out for us. It is a proper Bond villain phone.

Oh my goodness, that phone is AMAZING! My boyfriend and I are currently in our tiny rented flat with our boring beige phone, but as said phone is currently broken, I think it’s the perfect opportunity to get a new one. I love the hamburger phone – I always wanted one when I was little! x

  6. These are all fab – I kind of miss my old rotary phone but it did take an age to call anyone if you made a mistake! I always hankered after the hamburger or maybe a pair of lips when I was a kid.

Love it, the shape & colour are great. I have always wanted a Salvador Dali/Mae West’s lips red plastic telephone since spotting them in the windows of tacky soho electrical stores as a child.

I still think the candlestick phones are awesome…

I love that orange colour! A very awesome friend gave us an original 70s phone in that shape for our wedding. In my favorite colour – turquoise. It’s totally great, but dialing a number takes ages. Good thing you have touch tone. Enjoy your new toy!
