You will have all seen this dress before, I last wore it when I was finishing my final day of paid work. I originally bought it from Couture Allure. This time it was for a meal out at The Criterion, a restaurant in London which was built in 1873 and in past times was frequented by people such as GK Chesterton, Winston Churchill, HG Wells and Edgar Wallace.
The interior is completely fabulous, covered all over in mirrors and gilded mosaics and grand arches. I have to be honest here and say the food did not at all match up to the grand setting or amazing history. We both had carpaccio to start with, then Mr D had a main of grilled chicken and I had fried mackerel with potato salad. It was all fairly unexciting and flavourless – not terrible, but really nothing to get enthused about. Despite that I had a great time; due in part to to the gorgeous surroundings, and another, perhaps larger, part to the large amount of wine we both imbibed.
Right now there is a deal on for The Criterion with toptable, where you can get two courses and a Bellini for £20. It might not be the place to go for an incredible meal out, but I can certainly recommend it for getting elegantly sozzled with a loved one.
