A few weeks ago I went to a friend’s wedding, and this is the 70s does 30s outfit I wore. Mr D sadly wasn’t with me, so instead of proper outfit shots you’ll have to make do with my arm-held-from-face and mirror techniques.
The dress is by Marjon Couture and has the most gorgeous fluttering sleeves. I took full advantage of their lovely floaty movement on the dance floor later that day – by the time I was bravely doing a solo boogy to ‘Jive Talking’ (what, no-one else likes the Bee Gees?) I thought I was pretty hot stuff; thank goodness it wasn’t a videoed wedding so I have no hard evidence to shatter my illusions.
The shoes are extremely chunky platform heels from Office, and the hair flower is made from a vintage kimono, bought in Japan. I also used a vintage grey leather clutch bag.
I was rather pleased with my make-up on the day, and glad I kept it simple. I love red lips don’t get me wrong, but you don’t have to put on red lipstick to get a vintage look, they did wear other colours too in the old days! The main products I used were Chanel Mirifique black eyeshadow, Maybelline Lasting Drama gel eye liner, and Chanel Rouge Allure lip gloss (all gifts, don’t I have nice friends). The lip gloss has come in very handy, as I can wear it by itself for a sheer pinky red, or layer it over lip pencil for a more intense 70s style gloss.
