After posting pictures from the film Frida last week, I went on a bit of a Frida Kahlo binge. She had incredible style, but more importantly, dressed to please herself and no-one else. What is really interesting is how many of the outfits I saw captured in original photographs of Frida were recreated in the Salma Hayek film. It made me respect the costume designer Julie Weiss even more; she obviously did a vast amount of research to make sure she got the details exactly right.
I wanted to share some photographs of Frida with you all, but in my usual way got totally absorbed and ended up finding well over a hundred. Here are just some of them, to show you her incredible style (and remember this traditional Mexican dress was not popular in the 30s to 50s when Frida was wearing it) and the way her spirit shines through. If you want to look at extra photographs I have also created a Frida Kahlo Pinterest board.

1960s coffee coloured lace cocktail dress
1970s flower and lace dressing gown
1940s carved wood tropical sandals
1970s pink ditsy floral cotton day dress
1960s double breasted tweed check coat by Eastex
She always looked like a painting herself. Some of these clothes are stunning.
i went on a Frida binge on Pinterest lately and didn’t come up with very much – very glad you put these up because you found some brilliant ones
i’ve followed your pinterest boards with great interest–primarily thinking about Frida decorating her corset/cast. i’m about ready to do something similar with my ugly purple cast.
